Riding the Winds of Professional Development

“Ladies and Gentlemen…welcome to Nigeria”

As our plane made its way to the debarking gate, I looked at the lights that span my entire view on both sides of the plane and was reminded again about the level of development that had been taking place in the region since the last time I visited. It was 4.30 in the morning and the ground staff were very alert, looking to see whom they could “assist” in getting situated.

I came off the plane and was greeted by the gush of fresh air, sound of a distant cock crowing and the chimes of early morning birds singing sweet melodies. I had honestly forgotten how refreshing it was to be on the continent and so many memories flooded my thoughts of the good times I’ve always had.  This was the 1st time I was returning home in almost 10 years and adding to my excitement was the fact that I made the trip with my wife and son (both of whom had never been to Abuja – Nigeria) and was also on my 3rd ECLP assignment, this time to handle sales and commercial operations for my business as GE continues its growth and service to the region.

As we made our way past customs to passenger pick up with our six enormous luggage’s (not all mine of course, I only had 4 in the pack J), I smiled as I read a huge billboard at the airport entrance written in Yoruba language…”Ekabo…Welcome”
