Seeing It All Come Together

I’m currently in the last couple of weeks of my second rotation and am on a plane flying to Florence to meet some of my new team members for my third rotation. So, it’s the perfect time to blog!

The period between rotations is always an unusual time. You are normally fairly busy finishing off the rotation - finalising pitches, chasing down small details, getting ready to hand over your work to someone else and generally trying to leave a tidy desk behind you; Yet you also want to hit the ground running on your new rotation so there’s lots of background reading and research on your new business to be done.  As always, you have to manage your time to make sure you keep both your old and new Assignment Leader happy!

This rotation transition is somewhat different for me. I am going into my last rotation so I really want to do a good job and use it as springboard into my off-program role. I am also rotating from a corporate role into my business, GE Transportation. I did two rotations in GE Corporate, where I worked on the Sustainable Cities initiatives. The first role focused on doing a deep dive on the market for GE in the City of Rotterdam. The second rotation involved developing a transportation solution for London. My new rotation will be a cross-European role looking at strategic marketing issues for GE Transportation.

Though I have one more full rotation to go, I am already seeing the connections between my work in Corporate and what I can take into my business. The cities program is now an important growth initiative and I can see myself becoming Transportation’s go-to point person when our business encounters opportunities to implement Sustainable Cities strategies. I also feel much more connected to the GE rhythm, particularly in terms of understanding strategic marketing tools and techniques so I can quickly apply what I have learnt in Corporate in my role at Transportation.

Overall, while the transition period is still a busy time with a lot of competing priorities, I can already begin to see how the diverse elements of GE come together and connect the dots.
