Launching the Global Giveback Initiative
Thursday, March 10, 2011 |
2 Comments The ECLP Global Giveback initiative was launched at the ECLP conference in Shanghai in January and over the past two months has been gaining momentum. The program encourages each ECLP to give back to their communities through monetary and in-kind donations and by volunteering their time to causes they believe in. While Global Giveback is an ongoing Q1/Q2 2011 initiative, Global Giveback Week, April 4 – 10, will feature heightened activities and goals to spread awareness.
Starting in January and until our next conference in July, we’ll be tracking each ECLP’s donations and will be awarding donations to charities on behalf of the individual ECLP and GE business (Aviation, Capital, Energy, Healthcare, Transportation, etc.) with the highest ECLP participation.
Here’s how it will work:
- Credit will be awarded in units of time for all types of giving back, from helping to serve homeless at a soup kitchen to tutoring senior citizens in computer literacy. For financial donations, the conversion to “time” credit will equal $20 USD = 1 hr
- For all other types of donating, credit will be awarded based on the honor code according to the amount of time it takes to donate
- Volunteering is also measured in time units according to the amount of time you volunteer
- Additionally, for every non-ECLP participant that donates due to ECLP’s Global Giveback campaign, whether they are GE employees or friends and family members outside GE, the ECLP who motivated them will receive 1/2 credit for all of their time
Thanks to enthusiasm from many of the ECLPs, the program has taken off globally! The goal is to give back 500 hours before our next conference in July. Some of our ECLPs have already begun giving back, and we’re over 10% on our way! We’ve created a thermometer that will update as we continue toward our goal.
Here are some examples of how ECLPs are giving back: Simone in Germany and HoJung in Korea (both ECLPs from GE Corporate) plan to work with their local GE Women’s Network to multiply the ECLP impact. Mohammed in Dubai has rallied the troops at GE Water to give as much as possible. Marc and Vanessa from GE Capital and GE Aviation, respectively, are organizing events at their hubs to get their colleagues involved and working together to help give back to each of their communities. Together we are all making a great impact!
I look forward to sharing more about how we’re giving back and will keep the blog updated as we track our leaders and the impact we’re making around the world.
