Global Giveback Recap

Recently I posted a blog about launching the ECLP Global Giveback Initiative.  During the life of the campaign we have seen such great involvement across all of the GE businesses and regions… I was astounded, and thought it was absolutely necessary to provide an update and highlight the great impact that ECLPs made globally!

As of today, more than $5,000 has been donated. Food and clothes were provided to the poor. Vital improvements were made to the homes of needy families. Hundreds of children were educated by ECLPs. In total, 94 participants from nine regions, across seven GE businesses gave 885 hours of their time to give back to their communities through donations and volunteering. This initiative will continue through the end of June.

I can’t possibly describe all of the Give Back activities in detail, but here are a few examples highlighting various engagements and the GE skills and capacities used around the world:

  • Teams from GE Healthcare supported the Ronald McDonald house in Wisconsin, US and hosted a blood drive in Seoul, Korea
  • A team from GE Capital transformed the yard of a Domus house in Stamford, US into a spring showcase
  • One Give Back participant used her business skills to enable an animal shelter in her hometown to remain in business by improving their operations and finances
  • A Chinese ECLP on rotation in the US taught American children about Chinese culture
  • One participant from the GE Energy Power & Water business educated high school students on clean water challenges and GE solutions
  • An ECLP in Germany collected decorative baskets that were being discarded by a local restaurant and “repurposed” them by filling them with chocolate bunnies and other goodies for Easter
  • An ECLP and nine of [his] GE colleagues in Dubai volunteered at the INJAZ-UAE ‘You can b!’ Innovation Day Camp, supporting teams of students as they addressed a specific business challenge, using the leadership, critical-thinking and teamwork skills the students learned from previous curricula
  • A group of China ECLPs spent a whole Sunday afternoon with 40 students one year from graduation. Together, they discussed career development, communication, and interview preparation
  • An ECLP from Mexico organized with Un Techo para Mi pais (A Roof for my Country) to aid in the construction of a community center for underprivileged families. This community center will provide a place to do workshops, take classes, and have community meetings. Construction took two days (Saturday and Sunday) and GE Capital America employees participated alongside community members to complete the task

Thanks to these ECLPs and all who participated, and a special shout-out to the leadership team! Their hard work and full engagement conceiving, initiating and coordinating the ECLP Global Give Back Initiative was instrumental in making it such a huge success.

For all current ECLPs, we’ll be sharing a recap of the event, lots of photos and videos, and announcing the winning business and participants at the July conference!  Stay tuned!
