SWAT Project Highlight: Healthymagination in Rural China

One of the highlights of the ECLP program for many members is the SWAT project, a corporate-wide project focusing on a problem that is top-of-mind among corporate leaders, such as our CMO, Beth Comstock. For more on SWAT and Commercial Excellence projects, see this great post by Sam.

Over the last two months I have had the pleasure of leading a diverse team of ten ECLPs from Brazil, China, and the U.S. as we explore the healthcare needs for rural patients in China. Here is a quick look at the project:

Travel in China Part III: More Adventurous Trips

For the more adventurous traveler who is hoping to avoid some of the foreign tourists, here is a look at some of the lesser-known tourist locations. (Although lesser-known to foreigners, these locations may still have crowds of domestic tourists during the winter months)!

CAUTION: Traveling to remote areas, or outside of the major cities in China, may require tour guides and/or a firm grasp of the Chinese language.

What is GE looking for in an ECLP candidate?

During the past few months, I have had the opportunity take a couple of recruiting trips and to meet many great MBA students who are interested in learning more about the ECLP program. One question that inevitably comes up in each conversation I have with prospective ECLPs is: “What is GE looking for in an ECLP candidate?” Here is my attempt to answer that question (from the perspective of a Capital ECLP):

The ECLP program is first and foremost a sales and marketing program. Thus, the program leaders in each of the businesses are seeking candidates who

Travel in China Part II: Classic China

After exploring the Shanghai area, ECLPs may want to spend a weekend in some of China’s classic tourist areas. Here is a quick look at some of China’s top destinations:

Beijing

Description: A must see for China. As a Beijing resident for almost two years, I can say that this city is my favorite in all of China. The city has many cultural attractions including the famous Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace, and the Great Wall.  Be sure to save time to visit the beautiful walking streets around Houhai’s lakes and check out the ancient architecture of the neighborhood’s hutong residences.

Travel in China Part I: Shanghai Day Trips

Now that the much-anticipated Global ECLP Conference in Shanghai is just over a month away, it is a perfect time to start planning that weekend getaway in China. To help our ECLPs choose their destination, I have prepared a three-part “Travel in China” series that will outline my picks for the best travel destinations in China.

Since our conference will be held in Shanghai, here are my picks for Shanghai day trips:

ECLP Global Engagement

What does it mean to be a global leader? In the coming years, much of GE’s growth will come from emerging markets and thus the role of global leaders will continue to grow in importance. Although the company prescribes to a primarily local hiring model, cross-border leadership will be essential for future GE leaders. During our semi-annual conference training, ECLPs have learned about the program’s commitment to creating a pipeline of leaders with a global mindset.

ECLP is certainly a global program with approximately 50%

July 2010 Commercial Leadership Conference in Review

Over 260 ECLPs from across the globe converged on Greenwich, CT two weeks ago for our semi-annual Experienced Commercial Leadership Conference at the Greenwich Hyatt. The week was packed with long days filled with training, networking, and keynote speakers. Here are a few highlights from the week…

Sunday

The conference kicked off early Sunday morning with a variety of community service activities. Among the volunteer opportunities offered was a project at Adopt-a-Dog, Inc. in Armonk, NY. In between the time spent on yard work and laying gravel, our team enjoyed playing with all of the shelter dogs. Fortunately, we avoided dog bites, poison ivy, and sun burns to get the job done and get back to the hotel just before the World Cup final!

Aluminum Is The New Plastic

Recently, GE Capital Americas embarked on a campaign to replace plastic water bottles with more cost-effective and eco-friendly water filtration systems. While the conversion to water filtration systems seems to fit perfectly with GE’s “Green is Green” mantra, the process also involved qualitative and quantitative analysis that would make any MBA proud.

Led by John Esposito and Dawn Cocks, the GE sourcing team researched the issues, presented a problem statement and business case, as well as provided both a macro-level analysis and a GE savings assessment. The solution they developed provided both cost savings and a positive environmental impact.
