What does 'being commercial' mean at GE?
Sunday, December 12, 2010 One of the questions we are frequently asked by prospective ECLPs is “what does it mean to be ‘commercial?’” Since this is the Experienced Commercial Leadership Program, it’s important to truly understand what this word means at GE. So, I set out to get a commercial leader’s perspective within the business I work, GE Capital, Americas.
According to Lee Cooper, Chief Commercial Officer for GE Capital, Americas, “being commercial” is trying to identify what your customer’s needs are, figure out the right way to solve their problem and then deliver that solution.
“We look for people that have a style about them that shows some degree of humility, who are incredibly hungry with a strong work ethic combined with good people skills.” Lee said.
I encourage you to view this brief video interview where Lee shares more insights on what being commercial means, examples of roles off-program and advice for prospective candidates.
